You started an NDIS business to do good work for people. Somewhere along the way you also became head of sales, the rostering backstop, the HR department and the only person who knows where the spare key lives.
Mr Purple is NDIS business coaching for the part nobody trained you for: the business around the care. Dr Tom Hitchcock and the Mr Purple team help NDIS provider owners and leaders with growth, sales, team, leadership and, quite often, getting their own time back. We are based in Sydney, and we coach Australia-wide.
What does an NDIS business coach actually do?
An NDIS business coach helps the owner and leaders of a disability services business run a healthier business: clearer priorities, steadier sales and referrals, a team that owns outcomes, and an owner who is no longer the answer to every question. A good one stays close enough to understand how your business really works, and independent enough to tell you the truth about it.
That is the whole job. It is not adding more noise. It is spotting blind spots, turning repeated business wobbles into useful data, and building better systems around people, decisions and delivery.
It is also not motivational posters, a slide deck you will never open again, or a lecture in a shiny jacket.
Is this you?
Mr Purple works with:
- NDIS business owners who are busy, growing and somehow more tired than when they started
- Allied Health business owners delivering NDIS supports alongside everything else
- Human-services leaders stepping into bigger roles
- Teams feeling reactive, stretched or unclear
- Providers who want better sales, performance and habits without losing the human bit
If you nodded at two or more of those, pop the kettle on. You are in the right place.
Business coaching for NDIS providers: the five things we work on
1. Growth that does not manufacture chaos
More participants should feel like progress, not like a fire drill with extra paperwork. We help you decide what to grow, what to stop and what has to be in place first, so more demand does not simply mean more chaos.
2. Sales and referrals without the pushy stranger act
Most providers grow on relationships: support coordinators, plan managers, allied health partners and families who talk to each other. We help you build a sales and referral rhythm the whole team can keep up, without anyone turning into a pushy stranger at a networking breakfast.
3. A team that owns the outcome
Good people still need good systems. We work on roles, decision rights, meetings that create movement and the habits that make follow-through normal rather than heroic. Recruitment support is part of the Scale Up route, because the right hire changes everything and the wrong one changes it too, just in the other direction.
4. Leadership that does not run on adrenaline
Leading in human services is meaningful and occasionally exhausting. Coaching gives you a place to think clearly, make the call you have been circling and lead your managers rather than rescue them.
5. Your time, back
If everything comes back to you, the business has a single point of failure and it is wearing your shoes. We work on what only you should do, what your team could do with a little support, and what nobody should be doing at all.
How it works: Discovery, Diagnosis, Transformation
Discovery
We learn the business before we advise on it: the people, the patterns, the pressure, and the wobble that keeps coming back however many times it gets fixed.
Diagnosis
The loud symptom is rarely the real cause. Using Mistakeology, Tom’s approach to treating mistakes as useful data rather than ammunition, we find the pattern underneath and agree what to change first.
Transformation
Agreed actions, owned by named people, reviewed against evidence rather than optimistic recollection. Then repeat until the business behaves differently. Between sessions, execution support helps move priorities beyond the whiteboard.
Who you work with
Tom leads the coaching relationship, supported by the wider Mr Purple team. You are not relying on one person with a crowded diary, and the mix changes with the problem rather than forcing every business through the same funnel.
Coaching
Candid thinking, leadership support and accountability from people who stay close enough to understand the business.
Specialist input
Sales, performance, people, recruitment, wellbeing and habit expertise when the situation needs another lens.
Execution support
Hands-on help between sessions. On the Purple Carpet, our invite-only flagship, you also get an agent: a business partner that works between strategy sessions and delivers done-for-you work on your goals.
We are your business GP, not your auditor
Here is the bit some coaches go a bit vague on, so we will be blunt. Mr Purple does not provide NDIS registration, audit, governance or compliance advice. Those areas should be handled by appropriately qualified specialists, and we will happily point you towards one.
Think of us as your business GP. A good GP knows your history, notices the small symptoms early and asks the question everyone else has learned to walk around. A good GP also knows when you need a specialist, and does not try to do your knee surgery in the waiting room.
NDIS business coach or NDIS consultant: which do you need?
If the question is “are we compliant?”, “how do we get registered?” or “are we ready for audit?”, you need an NDIS consultant or compliance specialist.
If the question is “why does everything still come back to me?”, “why are referrals so lumpy?” or “how do I build a team that runs without me holding its chest up?”, you need an NDIS business coach. That is us.
Plenty of providers need both, at different times. Knowing which one you are looking at saves money and a good deal of frustration.
Why Tom
Tom is a TEDx speaker, the host of The CUSP podcast and the mind behind Mistakeology, and he has built, lost, sold and rebuilt businesses. He does not claim to have all the answers. He does ask the awkwardly useful questions.
Useful operational and specialist support
For providers reviewing day-to-day operations, Hubshift’s NDIS CRM and rostering platform brings participant management, rostering and claims into one system.
NDIS support workers, Allied Health professionals and provider owners exploring home, investment, refinancing or commercial finance can learn more from Support Finance Group. Mr Purple does not provide financial advice. Hubshift and Support Finance Group are Mr Purple partners.
Bring one business wobble
Fifteen honest minutes with Tom. Bring the problem you cannot quite name. Leave knowing whether we are the right pair of eyes and what the sensible next step is. No surprise proposal ambush, no hard sell and no interpretive dance.
Coaching routes run from Solopreneur to Scale Up, with the Purple Carpet for owners who want the full team and an agent in their corner. Investment is agreed after a short fit call, once the scope is clear.
NDIS business coaching FAQs
- What does an NDIS business coach do?
- An NDIS business coach helps provider owners and leaders grow a healthier business: sales and referrals, team and leadership, priorities, habits and the owner’s own time. It is about how the business runs, not whether it meets the rules. Mr Purple coaches the business around the care.
- Do you help with NDIS registration, audits or compliance?
- No. Mr Purple does not provide NDIS registration, audit, governance or compliance advice, and we would rather say so up front than fudge it. Those areas belong with qualified specialists, and we are happy to point you to one. We are your business GP, not your auditor.
- What is the difference between an NDIS business coach and an NDIS consultant?
- A consultant usually tells you what needs to be done, often around registration, audits and the practice standards. A coach works with you and your leaders over time on how the business is run: decisions, team, sales, habits and growth. Many providers use both at different stages.
- Is NDIS business coaching only for big providers?
- No. The route depends on the problem and the people involved, not the size of your headcount badge. We work with founders doing it all themselves through to growing teams, and coaching routes run from Solopreneur to Scale Up.
- Can my managers be involved?
- Yes, and often they should be. The people who have to make the change real usually need to be in the room. From the Entrepreneur route onwards, a key leader can join you in coaching.
- How much does NDIS business coaching cost?
- We do not publish prices, because the right scope depends on your business and what you are trying to change. Investment is agreed after a short fit call, once the scope is clear. The first fifteen minutes are a conversation, not a sales pitch.
- Do you coach NDIS providers outside Sydney?
- Yes. Mr Purple is based in Sydney, and coaches NDIS providers Australia-wide.
- What happens on the first call?
- Bring one business wobble. Tom will ask a few candid questions, test the fit and agree a sensible next step. If we are not the right fit, you will at least leave knowing that, and with a clearer view of the problem.
