The care sector runs on acronyms, rule changes and the occasional 400 page PDF. These are the official bodies we actually keep open in a browser tab when we coach owners and leaders in disability, aged care and housing.
Bookmark the lot, then get back to running your business.
A quick boundary. Mr Purple is business coaching for NDIS, aged care and allied health providers. We are not a regulator, a law firm or a compliance consultant, and we are not a registered NDIS provider. For registration, audits and pricing rules, the sites below are the final word.
Disability and the NDIS
- National Disability Services (NDS)The peak body for disability service providers. Sector news, policy submissions and member events, so you hear about a change before it lands on your desk.
- NDIS Quality and Safeguards CommissionThe regulator. Registration, the Code of Conduct and reportable incidents all live here. If an auditor will ask about it, the answer starts here.
- NDIS Practice StandardsThe standards registered providers are audited against. Far better to read them yourself than have an auditor read them to you.
- NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price LimitsThe price limits and claiming rules, usually refreshed from 1 July. Check them before you set next year's budget, not after.
- NDIS guide to becoming a providerThe official walk through for registering, or for working out whether you need to register at all.
Aged care
- Ageing AustraliaThe national peak body for aged care providers. Policy updates, events and a loud voice in Canberra on your behalf.
- Aged Care Quality and Safety CommissionThe aged care regulator. Provider registration, complaints and the guidance that sits behind every assessment.
- Aged Care Quality StandardsWhat providers are assessed against. Read them as a checklist for how your service actually runs on a wet Tuesday, not just on audit day.
- My Aged CareThe front door for older people and their families. Knowing what your clients see here helps you explain Support at Home without the jargon.
Housing: SDA and SIL
- SDA AllianceThe industry body for Specialist Disability Accommodation investors, developers and providers. News, events and advocacy on the rules that shape SDA.
- Allied Health Professions AustraliaThe peak body for allied health. Handy if your SIL or SDA service works alongside therapy teams, or runs its own.
Running the business
- business.gov.auThe government's one stop shop for registrations, grants, tax basics and templates. Dull? A bit. Useful? Very.
- Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO)Free help with disputes, late payments and dealing with big organisations or government. Worth knowing before you need it.
- Fair Work Ombudsman: small businessPay rates, awards and employment rules written for small business owners. Wages are your biggest cost, so get them right first time.
